Indirect fired line heater — coil, firetube & shell preliminary sizing

Flow Conditions

All six flow-condition fields are required. Enter your temperatures; 40°F is a suggested default, not an entered value.

Burner capacity and preliminary dimensions are calculated automatically from the heating duty, efficiency, coil selection, and allowable wall heat flux.

Awaiting required flow conditions.

Automatic sizing basis & limits

Shell length: coil-required straight length plus 18 in total clearance and return-bend projections, rounded up to 6 in. Firetube: smallest listed even NPS (4–24) meeting the bath-duty / allowable-flux area within that length. Burner capacity equals calculated firing input, including efficiency; no additional hidden burner margin is applied. Shell: fit the coil and both firetube legs, then round up to the next even NPS.

Envelope assumptions: 1/4 in shell wall; 1 in side and coil-to-firetube clearance; 1.5 in top clearance; 1.25D coil pitch; 1.5D firetube return radius. Firetube return area is excluded conservatively. Coil routing, supports, actual shell wall, firetube wall/clear bore, flame length, heat-release limits and draft must be reviewed by the burner supplier and fabricator. These are not certified dimensions.
